Pasto Cindy’s Oct. 16th Epistle

Pasto Cindy’s Oct. 16th Epistle

Dear Friends:

Willing Workers are preparing to give quilts to those in our congregation who are veterans.  We will recognize those who have served in our Armed Forces on Sunday, November 15 following our 9:00 a.m. worship service in New Fellowship Hall.  This will also allow for social distancing.  Questionnaires were sent out to those who are veterans and have not yet received a quilt. If you have received one of the questionnaires, please fill it out and return it to Bonnie Jonas via the church office by November 1.

We are still taking appointments for the Church Picture Directory.  We still have several spots on Tuesday and Wednesday evening.  If you have not yet signed up, you may do so online or you may call the church office to arrange for an appointment. To sign up online go to www.ucdir.com; click on the area that invites you to make an appointment.  In the Church field enter IN1687 and in the password field enter photos.  Select the day you would like to be photographed and then select a time that works best for you.  Complete the information fields requested and click submit and you are finished.

Sunday, November 1 will be our ALL SAINTS DAY SERVICE at 9:00 a.m.  Letters were sent out September 27 to families that we knew had experienced a loss from October 1, 2019 through October 1, 2020.  If you have not brought us a picture of your loved one, please do so before Thursday, October 29.  If you did not receive a letter and you have lost a loved one in the past year and would like to have them remembered, please email us their photo or drop it by the church office for inclusion. Please write their name, Date of Birth and Date of Death on the back of the photo.  We will have a special time in worship for remembering, a special message, and we will share in Holy Communion.   We will also be remembering those fur-babies/pets that you have lost in the past year as well. They are a big part of our lives as well.

Finally, I want to encourage you to be very mindful of our Pandemic/COVID-19 precautions found at the end of each week’s epistle.   I am aware that there has been a lot of discussion about spikes in the disease on Facebook and on the news.  As we enter the fall, the holiday seasons, and the time for colds/flu it is important that we take care to not let down our guard.  I don’t want us to have to face further or additional shut-downs as we did earlier in the year.  I am increasingly aware that this Pandemic is going to be with us and continue to be our way of life for several more months.

I don’t believe that “normal” is something we are going to see for quite a while yet.  Let us continue to Do Good and not harm by wearing our masks, staying a safe distance, praying for endurance and keeping in contact with those that we know who cannot be out and about.

Grace and Peace

Pastor Cindy

FOOD DRIVE:
Thank you for your amazing donations during our monthly Food Drives for Hope of Southern Indiana. Your food goes a long way to help with those who are struggling because of the COVID-19-pandemic and other issues as well. We will have a Community Wide Food Drive on Saturday, October 24, 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.  We will have a trailer available in the parking lot of the church to put the food in.  Fliers went out to local churches inviting them to participate along with us.  Be sure to share this with your neighbors who live near you as well.

Habitat for Humanity:
We have a team that will be working on Wednesday, October 21 from 9-3. Despite the COVID crisis, the house is on track to be finished by Thanksgiving.  The new homeowner Whitney Stover has lost her job. She must have a job in order for her to take possession of the home.  Whitney is busy interviewing so that hopefully she will be able to get a new job and be able to take possession of the house.  Please be in prayer that she will find a new job and she and son Roman can move in very soon after.

There is a table devoted just to scheduling directory photos in the Church Narthex.  Those appointments are then be added back into the online schedule on Monday mornings each week. If we need more time slots, we will add Monday, October 26, 2-8:30 p.m.

ALL SAINTS DAY CELEBRATION: Sunday, November 1, 2020 will be our ALL Saint’s Day Service.  Letters have been sent out to all the families that we are aware of who have lost loved ones since October 1, 2019.  This will include our beautiful fur-babies as well.  If you have lost a loved one in the past year and you did not receive a letter from us, please be sure to get in touch with us in the office.  We don’t want to leave anyone out of this beautiful and touching service.  We will be creating a power point with pictures of each person and the fur-babies; there will be a candle to light for each family which you will take home; I will have a special message for that day, and we will celebrate Holy Communion together on that day.

Children’s Message and Nursery Servants
As we begin gathering back in the church, we need some help with the children’s message for first service.  Contact Joann Fredrick if you can help or would like to take a few minutes to teach the children. We also will need some help in the nursery in the future.  If you can help in the nursery in upcoming months, please let Jessie Townsend know.

HELP IS NEEDED! Do you know how to operate a laptop, a smartphone, an Ipad or any other electric device?  If your answer is YES, we want you to talk with David Gaither about helping out back in the tech area of the sanctuary to operate the computer during either worship service.  This could be a youth, a woman or a man.  If you feel like you could push a button every so often, we could use your help.  See David Gaither or Pastor Cindy Osgood.

Sunday, November 1, 2020 will be the day our time falls back to EST.
We don’t want you to be late to worship.  See you soon!

We Miss You! Regathered Church:

We want you to re-join us in worship at 9:00 a.m. or 11:11 a.m.  If you are feeling well and are not compromised by health issues we want you to join us for worship.  We are practicing social distancing with plenty of additional room for you to join us.  Masks are provided if you come and forget your own.  Anti-viral solution is sprayed on all surfaces between the two services. We do discourage groups gathering to visit.  We hope that, for all ages, you will come and join us for worship.

  • Sunday school classes and small groups gathering at the shelter {weather permitting}, or meeting via Zoom.  Check with your class/group leader.

As you come into the church:

  • Use the main entrance – Door 2
  • The doors will be standing open.
  • There is a hand sanitizing station just inside the door.
  • There are no-contact and limited-contact thermometers at the station as well.
  • There are face masks available at the station (please bring yours if you have one). We do provide a limited number of disposable masks.
  • Go directly to a pew/seat.
  • Please move to the front/sides to avoid sharing the virus.
  • Distance your family from others by at least 6 feet.
  • If you sing, please wear your mask.  This will help keep the spray from gathering distance.
  • An Offering Basket has been placed at the entrance to the sanctuary.
  • The ushers dismiss the congregation starting from the back of the church to the front/sides.
  • Whoever is preaching will greet you outside the entrance of Door #2 as you leave worship.
  • The church is sanitized between the two services.
